The next Disney Lorcana expansion has been announced as Shimmering Skies, which will be the fifth set for the popular collectible trading card game. As always, the set will be adding a variety of new cards and characters, featured across Starter Decks, booster packs, a new Illumineer’s Trove, and more. Shimmering Skies follows up on the recent release of Ursula’s Return, which added new mechanics like cards cooperating on songs and gave the evil sea witch her time to shine.
After the ultimate victory over Ursula, Shimmering Skies features the Illumineers seeking out a way to fix the damage that she caused. Joining the cause are characters from Wreck-It Ralph and more along with returning favorites, from Elsa to Donald Duck. There are also some interesting surprises among the new offerings, like a crossover promotion with the board game Disney Villainous that could be of particular interest to those who enjoy both games.

Disney Lorcana: Shimmering Skies Release Date

Sticking to the standard Disney Lorcana approach, Shimmering Skies will be released first in local game stores, physical Disney Stores, and Disney Park retailers on August 9, 2024. A wider release will follow two weeks later on August 23, bringing the set to mass market retailers and DisneyStore.com. An exclusive foil Disney Lorcana: Shimmering Skies card coming to Disney Villainous: Introduction to Evil will be available slightly earlier on August 1, 2024, releasing in select major retailers along with local game stores.
Although the early days of Disney Lorcana were plagued by stock issues, recent expansions have been more stable, so it shouldn’t be difficult to pick up Shimmering Skies. If something specific like a portfolio or playmat has a lot of appeal, however, it might still be best to pay careful attention to the release dates.

Disney Lorcana: Shimmering Skies Products & Prices

Aside from the foil card included with new copies of Disney Villainous: Introduction to Evil, the format of the Disney Lorcana: Shimmering Skies product lineup sticks to the general formula established so far. Starter Decks make for the best way to introduce players to the game or expansion, while boosters help to fill out a collection and offer a chance at pulling some rare cards. Products like sleeves, boxes, and playmats offer useful themed accessories for play and storage.

Disney Lorcana: Shimmering Skies has revealed 11 cards for the set, which cover every Ink type and a number of different characters alongside a couple of locations. Separately, the promotional foil card coming to Disney Villainous has also been showcased, featuring a slumbering Prince John clutching one of his precious bags of gold.
