Games Workshop Trade Items Product Type Explained!

Hello members! I’d like to take a moment to remind you about an important update we did to Games Workshop and it’s associated Product Types a few years ago that you might not have known about.

History: Update to Games Workshop Online Retailing Policies

As of May 2017, direct Trade Accounts of Games Workshop and retailers purchasing from Authorized Distributors are able to sell Games Workshop products through web stores, third party portals, and auction sites (at an instant purchase price only).

History: CrystalCommerce changes to accommodate Games Workshop Online Retailing

Previously the CrystalCommerce catalog contained a few Games Workshop (online only) and Games Workshop (P.O.S. only) product types/categories. Prior to 3 May 2017 this was necessary due to the restrictions for selling Games Workshop products online. We have removed the Online Only and Point of Sale Only distinction, now have just one category needed instead of 2 for each product line. We have also created a unified product type for all current and future Games Workshop products as well as deprecated all old Games Workshop product types and categories.

List of Product Types/Categories that were deprecated:

  • Games Workshop (online only/POS only)
  • Games Workshop Specialist Games (online only/POS only)
  • The Lord of The Rings Strategy Battle Game (online only/POS only)
  • Warhammer (online only/POS only)
  • Warhammer 40,000 (online only/POS only)
  • Warhammer Age of Sigmar (online only/POS only)

Important: We are no longer making updates to the above categories and product types.

List of new Categories created:

  • Games Workshop Specialist Games
  • Games Workshop Trade Items
  • Games Workshop Trade Items Novels
  • Games Workshop Trade Items Paints and Accessories
  • Middle-Earth, The Hobbit & The Lord of the Rings (GW)
  • Warhammer 40000 (GW)
  • Warhammer Age of Sigmar (GW)
  • White Dwarf

New Unified Product Type: Games Workshop Trade Items

Descriptors:

  • Format
  • GW Barcode
  • Part Code
  • Short Code

What does this mean for an existing CrystalCommerce user?

Now that we have made one unified product type for Games Workshop, you only have to manage a single product type for all of the new Games Workshop product we add into the catalog: Games Workshop Trade Items.

How do I set this up?

You will need to add in the new Games Workshop Trade Items Product Type into your Product Types list- Here is a guide on how to do so, or you can reach out to CrystalCommerce via the Chat Bubble in the admin. We can advise and assist you in through this whole process.

Once you have the new product type setup, it’s time to import the new Products. They can be found under the “Games Workshop Trade Items” category in our catalog- all of the new and old Games Workshop products will be centralized here. Here is a guide to on how to import. Again, if you need any help please reach out and ask us for assistance!

Finally, you will want to migrate existing quantity and/or price to the new dedicated Games Workshop categories. Here is our guide on how to export and import data via Mass Create. Please reach out to support if you have any questions, we will be happy to assist.

Once you have all the data exported from the old categories, we highly recommend deleting these old, deprecated categories and product types to avoid confusion down the road!
